Let the Stress Begin

We got a call from the seller’s agent on our house late last week saying that he had some concerns he wanted to talk to us about.  We went out there and talked with him and he basically told us that even though the builder keeps telling him that the house will be finished in time for us to move in this month, he’s not sure that it’s gonna get done.  The rub lies in the fact that we had to end our current contract on the 31st of October and we are planning on moving out on the 29th.  So, if it isn’t done, we’re homeless until it is.  Luckily, our contract contains a stipulation that they have to pay us up to $100 a day to cover our costs if they don’t finish on time, but needless to say, we’d like to avoid living out of a moving van for a week.

We’ve gone out and looked at the house several times over the last few days to check on the progress of the exterior (the major concern).  As of Wednesday, no one from the stucco contractor had ever shown up to the worksite, but now it is Saturday and at least 1/2 of the house has been tarpapered and chicken-wired so we’re feeling a little better about the continued possibility of an October closing.  Now we just have to keep packing…
