Summer Vacation - Washington DC

While we were out east we did a whirlwind tour of some of the DC sites. Kiley was once again pretty good (we had a few rough moments) about being dragged around. There are lots of pictures and they are in the order blogger uploaded (too much work to put them in a particular order).

Kiley and Chris and the Jefferson Memorial

Kiley's favorite museum was the Natural History museum. They have a whole section full of stuffed animals (the real kind not the fluffy toy kind). We spent a lot of time chasing her around as she yelled out the names of the animals that she saw. She also liked the mineral and rock portion of it because they had rocks that you could actually touch, our two year old quickly tired of hearing "just look, no touching"

We were pretty disappointed with the White House. The closest they would let you get was about a mile away. (To get tour you have to get a ticket via your congressmen a month in advance and they only do it for groups of ten or more) Chris got some nice shots of it and thanks to a great zoom on the camera this is one of my favorites. You can't tell really well on blogspot, but those are just a few snipers on top of the house.

Chris at the Einstein statue.
Kiley had finally passed out in her stroller by the time we saw this or she probably would have loved to climb on it.

Chris took lots of pictures from the tour bus we took through Arlington. Kiley was being particularly cranky so we chose not to get off at all. Chris will have to see the tomb of the unknown soldiers another trip. But we did get a picture of this headstone. The baseball fans who read this should know who he is. We did not know he was buried at Arlington.
Kiley and I sitting down on the steps to the Jefferson Monument. She decided she wanted to climb up so we actually had this photo opportunity. Later Chris showed up without the stroller, he had accidentally left it at the bottom of the steps. Apparently the security guard was a little cross with him when he ran back down to get it. They frown on unattended strollers these days!

We are sitting down in front of the pillar.

I thought this was a nice shot Chris took looking back at the Washington Monument from the Lincoln Memorial. We did a lot of walking the day we saw the Lincoln Memorial.

This is the GIANT Elephant in the entryway at the Natural History Museum. Kiley thought it was very cool, but was extremely disappointed when she was told she could not ride it. So we were never able to get her to actually smile while we were standing in front of it.

Chris at the Air and Space Museum.

Kiley getting to touch a piece of a moon rock. It was a little difficult to get the perfect picture.

All in all it was a good trip. It was great to see old friends and I think Chris had a good time finally being able to see the Nation's capitol. Hopefully we will get a chance to go back another time when Kiley is old enough to enjoy it a little more (which of course will help Chris and me enjoy it a little more as well)
